Now that we’re on yet another lockdown, many of us are finding our energy levels have taken a huge dive. With so many of us experiencing disruption to our normal routines and juggling working from home and homeschooling, lockdown life can be exhausting. And even if you're not doing a lot during lockdown, it can still be tiring.
Here are some of the ways that you can increase your energy naturally and counteract the effects of lockdown.
Staying hydrated can be more difficult in the winter months, especially as cold water can be off-putting. Drinking more warming herbal teas can help to increase your water intake if you don’t feel like drinking lots of water.
Green tea can be a great choice as it contains L-theanine, which boosts brain function and helps you feel more alert.
If you can’t be without your caffeine hit, we loved the London Nootropics Adaptogenic Coffee Blends Pack that we featured in our Wake Up Collection. It’s an easy way to boost your mental clarity and it’s so simple to use. Just add to a mug of hot water and stir well to help it dissolve.
If you're feeling tired even though you're not doing a lot, it could be because you're less active than normal. It's a bit of a catch-22 situation. The less you do, the more tiring it can be. Your body can quickly get used to doing less and it becomes the new normal. It encourages less oxygen to get to the blood, which leaves you feeling sluggish and lethargic.
Getting more active can break this cycle. Spending time outside also exposes you to natural light, which can boost your mood and help with sleep.
Work on your sleep patterns
A lot of us have been struggling with sleep during the pandemic and it's a big factor in energy levels. Sticking to a regular pattern for when you go to bed and when you get up can help. It might seem like a good idea to try to catch up on sleep by getting up later but it's the quality of sleep that makes the big difference. If your sleep quality is poor, lie-ins won't help much.
Avoiding screens before bedtime is another smart move. Blue light from devices can affect your body's melatonin levels and make it harder to get to sleep.
Take time for yourself
We're big believers in the importance of self-care, especially for helping to recharge your energy levels. Our Wake Up Collection featured some gorgeous self-care treats to pamper your mind, body and skin.
The Saint Iris Adriatica Wake Up Droplets are award-winning skincare drops for hydrated, nourished, and brighter skin. And the Ila Spa Face Mask for Glowing Radiance is a green clay mask that's rich in minerals and ultra-hydrating for a lovely facial pick-me-up. As a big bonus, they'll help your skin to look radiant and beautiful, even if you don't feel full of energy!
A relaxing bath is always a self care treat and you can add some extra calm with the Brampton House Clear Mind Bath Salts we featured in our Wake Up Collection. They're perfect for reducing mental fatigue and brain fog and easing muscle tension thanks to the combination of Epson and Himalayan salts and essential oils.
Boost your nutrition
Eating well can help to increase your energy naturally but you may also benefit from an extra boost during lockdown. The Natalia Botanicals Rise and Shine Natural Energy featured in our Wake Up Collection is an easy way to do this.
It also helps to reduce anxiety and calm your nerves, which is definitely much needed for most of us at the moment! Stir into drinks, add to smoothies or sprinkle on cereals and meals for a quick and easy energy boost.
Even your choice of snacks can give you an energy boost. Avoiding processed foods that are likely to lead to a blood sugar dip is a great way to keep blood sugar levels stable and minimise energy crashes.
If you're already feeling lethargic, natural energy-boosting snacks are definitely the way to go! We often include healthy snacks in out boxes and our Wake Up Collection was no exception. We love the Natural State Raw Brownie snack that was included there..
