Self Care Tips for Winter Wellbeing

The winter months can be harsh on your wellbeing. The darker evenings and colder temperatures can affect your mood, your skin, and your immunity. But winter doesn’t have to be a miserable time of year. Here are our top tips for looking after yourself and making winter an indulgent, fun time of year.

Stay Hydrated

Lots of us find it harder to stay hydrated during the winter months and this is where herbal teas can really come into their own.

They’re a great way to warm yourself and keep yourself hydrated. But these days, herbal teas can boost your nutrition too.

Our Winter Harmony Collection had just the thing for this. Oh My Flo Wellness Tea is a gorgeous blend of natural adaptogenic ingredients, including rosehip, raspberry leaf, goji berries, and Schisandra berries.

It’s not just any herbal tea though - this one is perfect for bringing a blissful moment of balance at “that” time of the month. It’s perfect for bringing a blissful moment of calm into your day and because it’s caffeine-free, it won’t leave you feeling tired later on.

Our Nurture Collection also introduced the TEA+ range of teas with added vitamins.

Boost Your Immunity

With so many bugs going around during the winter, it's vital to support your immune system. Here are some of the ways you can do this through, especially through diet and supplements.

Get Nutrients Through Your Diet

Eating plenty of colourful fruits and vegetables is a great move, especially for Vitamin C and antioxidants, which are immunity boosters.

Other nutrients that support immunity include:

Vitamin A: Vitamin A plays a huge role in supporting immunity. Orange foods are packed with it. Think carrots, sweet potato, pumpkin, butternut squash and cantaloupe. Dark leafy greens are also a great source.

Vitamin E: As another powerful antioxidant, vitamin E can support immunity. Nuts and sunflower seeds are fantastic sources of vitamin E.

Zinc: You’ll often see zinc included with vitamin C in supplements because it’s great for immunity and is heavily involved in producing new immune cells. Oysters, lean meats, and poultry are great sources of zinc.

Selenium: Selenium helps reduce oxidative stress, which has anti-inflammatory benefits and helps increase immunity. Just a couple of Brazil nuts is enough to meet your daily quota. Meat and liver are also sources of selenium.

Load Up On Spices And Herbs

Cinnamon: Cinnamon has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant qualities. Some studies have also suggested it may protect the “T” cells that are heavily involved in the immune response. Sprinkle it on coffee or porridge, add to smoothies and soups or use it in baking.

Ginger: Ginger contains compounds that can help treat colds and sore throats. Like cinnamon, ginger also has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory qualities that are crucial for immunity.

Garlic: Garlic is another great one for immunity thanks to its antibacterial, antimicrobial and antiviral properties. If you don’t mind eating it raw, you’ll get the biggest benefits. If you cook it, be careful with the heat so you don’t destroy the health benefits.

Turmeric: You likely already know about some of the health benefits of turmeric and its active ingredient is particularly powerful.

Curcumin is linked to better immunity, reduced inflammation, gut health, and brain health.

Add turmeric to soups, curries and pretty much anything else you're cooking for a taste and health boost.

It can still be hard to get enough turmeric or curcumin through your diet to see significant benefits so you may decide to supplement too.

The Your Bodhi Natural Turmeric Curcumin Supplements from our Nurture Collection are a great choice, especially for bioavailability.

Cayenne Pepper: Cayenne pepper is a triple threat for immunity. It helps reduce inflammation and improve circulation and is packed with powerful antioxidants. Add it to curries if you like the heat!

Make Cosy Soups

It’s not winter without a bowl of comforting and nourishing soup and this is a great way to eat more immune-boosting vegetables, herbs and spices.

Supplement With Vitamin D

Vitamin D: Vitamin D has lots of roles in the body, including immunity and bone health. Lots of us are lacking in it between September and March, especially since it's not found in many foods.

Our Winter Harmony Collection included Life Armour Drops of Vitamin D & Bone Health - perfect for keeping your vitamin D levels topped up when sunlight is less forthcoming!

Take Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar: As well as supporting immunity, apple cider vinegar is great for digestion. The acidity can damage tooth enamel and your oesophagus so always make sure it’s not taken neat. Dilute in warm water, add to smoothies or mix with olive oil as a salad dressing. The Willys Apple Cider Vinegar Shot featured in our Nurture Collection is mixed with juices and is ready to drink (unless otherwise stated).

Give Your Skin Some TLC

The winter months can be cruel to your skin. The combination of cold weather, central heating, and dehydration can lead to dry and dull-looking skin.

Give your skin some love with the Liminal Beauty Sandalwood CBD Body Treatment Balm from our Winter Harmony Collection. Shea butter and cocoa butter provides intense hydration for your skin while the CBD provides anti-inflammatory benefits. Once it’s massaged into your skin, breathe in the woody Sandalwood scent for deep relaxation.

Another skin saviour is the Relaxayvoo Protect Facial Oil that also featured in our Winter Harmony Collection. It’s deceptively light since it also moisturises and protects. It contains Rose Otto and Sandalwood to uplift and relax, plus Camellia Oil and Evening Primrose Oil to nourish and smooth.

If your skin needs a helping hand to repair itself during the winter, look no further than the Naya Skincare Everyday Day Cream from our Nurture Collection. Packed with Maracuja Oil, Centella Asiatica, and Butterfly Lilac, this lightly whipped moisturiser hydrates, protects, repairs damaged skin tissue and increases collagen production for healthy, glowing skin.

Turn Bath Time Into Pamper Time

There's nothing better than relaxing in a warm bath on cold winter nights, especially if you also use it as an opportunity to nourish your body and mind.

The No Secrets Beauty One & Four Bath Jellies from our Winter Harmony Collection is a new way to enjoy therapeutic bathtimes.

Rub the jelly over your body before you bathe and let your body heat bring out the calming aromas. Once you’re in the water, the jelly dissolves and helps soften your skin and relax your muscles.

Healing salts are another way to take your bath time pampering to another level.

Our Nurture Collection featured the Malako Magnesium and Spirulina Bath Salts & Scrub, which is packed with magnesium flakes, Dead Sea Salt, and Himalayan Pink Salt.

This powerful combination is the ultimate in detox and self-soothing, and your skin will love the spirulina extract too.

Clear Your Mind & Body

The winter months can bring congestion and fuzzy heads, even if you don't get ill.

Regular steaming can unblock your sinuses and clear your mind but menthol crystals won't always cut it.

Enter the Salt & Steam Not Today, Satan Facial Steam from our Nurture Collection. The eucalyptus and rosemary will decongest your sinuses and clear your mind. Plus, the steam is hydrating and detoxifying thanks to the Dead Sea Salt and Pink Himalayan Salt.
