Tips for Feeling Calmer and In Control

We’ve been really excited to put together our Calm Collection box. It’s packed full of natural products to help you achieve a calmer mind, body and skin. And with Self Care Awareness Month coming up in September, it’s a little reminder to put yourself first and give yourself the TLC you deserve!

For those of you who are struggling to relax, we wanted to share some tips for getting a bit more calm in your life.

For instant calm, take a few slow and deep breaths. Ideally, you want your “out” breath to be just a little bit longer than your “in” breath. This sends a signal to your brain to bring your parasympathetic nervous system into the ascendency and encourages slow breathing, lower blood pressure and a much bigger sense of calm. Just imagine all of your stress leaving your body with every breath!

Another way to stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system is mindfulness and meditation. Spending a bit of time meditating and being in the present moment is really effective for calming your mind. It can be a challenge when you first get started with it but with practice, it gets easier!

If you’re not a fan of meditation and find it hard to clear your mind, you can try yoga or tai chi instead. It can have the same effect of helping you to feel calm. Or if you fancy being a bit more active, moderate-intensity exercise encourages your body to release feel-good endorphins.

Try doing a body scan to highlight any areas of your body that are tense or tight. Your shoulders and jaw can be big culprits for carrying tension. Imagining the tension melting away can help you to relax, and progressive muscle relaxation is another great option for doing this.

No doubt you’ve heard a lot about CBD oil this year and it’s even becoming a staple in skincare products these days. You may not realise that it can help you to feel calmer though! CBD oil has shown some very promising effects for promoting relaxation and there’s lots of anecdotal evidence to back up the studies.

CBD oil may also be useful for reducing anxiety symptoms. One study looked at people with social anxiety, who took either 600 mg of CBD or a placebo before they took part in a public speaking test. The CBD group had less anxiety compared to the placebo group.

If you’re about to go into a situation that you know will stress you, CBD oil could be just what you need to help you to stay in control.

The theory is that CBD acts on serotonin receptors in the brain, which can have a positive effect on your mood.

The Calm collection will be available in September and as our themed collections are always very popular, we’re expecting it to sell out quickly! You can subscribe now and receive one of our amazing collections every other month, or just try a one off box for £37.
